The Yemen is a country of around 24 million inhabitants where there is only one cardiac surgery centre in the capital city of Sana'a.
The university hospital centre performs around 500 operations each year, which is not many in relation to the real demands of the country. The hospital still cannot envisage the possibility of
performing operations on complex heart conditions in neonates and in children under one year of age. Thanks also to the important financial support of the Red Crescent of the United Arab Emirates, the Association and the I.R.C.C.S. San Donato General Hospital, a partnership has begun with the University of Sana'a that will include a training programme for personnel in Italy by the San Donato General Hospital, operational missions with teams of cardiologists and heart surgeons and the organisation of scientific meetings for professional development.
